IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rebecca C
Pouncey
January 3, 1918 – November 1, 2018
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4:7
Mother Rebecca C. Pouncey , affectionately known as Mom, Grandma, Aunt Beck, Ma Beck, Rebecca and Becca was the eldest of seven children born on January 3, 1918 in Dillon, South Carolina to the late Willie "Bill" Collington and Anamelia Cribb Collington. Rebecca departed this earthly life in her home and was called to eternal rest on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
Rebecca attended the public school in the Temperance Hill community until her father became ill. It was then that she had to quit school and take on more responsibilities in her family by working as a sharecropper and becoming a leader among her siblings.
At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and joined Spring Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Over the years her love for Christ continued to grow and this was demonstrated by her unyielding service as a Sunday school teacher, church clerk and usher. During her later years she faithfully attended church until her health began to decline. As the oldest living member of Spring Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Rebecca was loved by her church family and was graciously known as the "Mother of the Church."
During her adult years she was blessed with a marriage to the late Luther Pouncey, Sr. and to their union three children was born. Rebecca always showcased a uniqueness that allowed her to lead with a tough, iron fist, while simultaneously providing endless amounts of love and support to her family and her community. Wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-n-law, daughter, friend, confidant, caretaker, backbone and prayer warrior are all just a few of her many titles. With her multifaceted roles she personified the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. Over her life span of 100 years Rebecca was faced with much adversity, such as: limited education, poverty and growing up in a society that often supported and enforced racism and sexism. Many would have relinquished during these lesser ideal times, but she never backed down or succumbed to the struggle because she understood, knew and believed that her help came from a higher power much greater than that of mankind and she always leaned on Him.
