Obituary

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4:7 Evangelist Cora Fields Gilchrist , the daughter of the late Walter and Cora Martin Fields, was born on June 6, 1920. She departed this earthly life on Friday, July 6, 2018. Cora attended the Dillon County Public Schools system in Dillon, South Carolina. Mother Cora Fields Gilchrist was joined in holy matrimony to Reverend Semore Gilchrist, Sr. and to the union eleven children were born. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Reverend Semore Gilchrist, Sr.; two children: Hasel Gilchrist and Bobby Gilchrist; daughter-in-law: Betty Gilchrist and a grand-daughter: Crystal Monique Gilchrist. She loved playing the keyboard, loved singing, dressing-up, especially in her beautiful hats. She loved flowers, and everyone enjoyed her butter beans and peas from her vegetable garden. She would drive her car weekly from Latta to Lake View. Even the week before she became ill Monday, July 2, 2018, she drove herself to Lake View, South Carolina. Evangelist Cora received Jesus Christ at an early age and was the matriarch of her family. She was a member of Saint Mark Baptist Church in Dillon, South Carolina. Later in life, she joined Little Bethlehem Ark of Safety Ministries in Lake View, South Carolina where she was the Overseer and the Church Mother. Mother Cora leaves to cherish her loving memories and legacy ~ her children: Evangelist Shirley Gilchrist of Maxton, NC, Sylvia Gilchrist and Osbrook Gilchrist both of Bronx, NY, Bishop Waymond (Elder Dale) Gilchrist of Blenheim, SC, Elder Eva Gilchrist of the home, Semore (Georgia) Gilchrist, Jr. of Marion, SC, David Gilchrist of Jersey City, NJ, Officer June Dale Gilchrist of Florence, SC, Dora Gilchrist of Queens, NY; her grand-daughter and caregiver: Erica Gilchrist of the home; thirty-five grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
