John L. Smith was born on December 3, 1941 to the late Johnny and Mary Phillips Smith. John entered eternal rest on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home.

He was educated in the Marion School System. He worked for the Town of Latta and a construction worker until his health failed.

John joined the Highway Church of Christ at an early age and was baptized in the name of Jesus. John rededicated his life to Christ in June 2017. Everyone he talked to he would say, "I got the Holy Ghost now, got my business fix and I am ready to go home."

John is proceeded in death by his parents, one sister: Maybell Smith, one brother: Jessie Smith and a special uncle: Odell Reaves, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his devoted aunt whom raised him as her own: Mother Evelyn Phillips Reaves; caretaker/cousin: Lettie Johnson; med tech/cousin: Jean Tart; special cousins: Jeanette Furnace, Sarah Robertson, Kenneth Reaves; cousins -in- law: James Barr and Leodis Smith; one nephew, and a host of other cousin, family and friends and loved ones.
