Obituary

2 Timothy 4: 7-8 "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."

Dr. Isaiah William Armstrong was born January 6, 1939 in Clover, South Carolina to Grady and Margaret Elizabeth (Pettus) Armstrong. He went from labor to reward on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at McLeod Hospice in Florence, South Carolina.

"Daddy Babe" or "Dad" as he was affectionately called, graduated from Roosevelt High School in Clover, South Carolina in 1957. He continued his studies at Benedict College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 1962. Isaiah took his first job as a Physical Education Teacher at Latimer High School. While teaching, he coached basketball from 1963-1970. When Latta schools integrated, Isaiah became an assistant principal at Latta High School. From 1970-1977, he coached J.V. baseball and basketball. He also assisted in football. In 1978, Dr. Armstrong became the principal of Latta Middle School and served 12 years. In 1990, Dr. Armstrong became assistant superintendent and served 6 years. In 1996, he retired from Latta School District 3 with 34 years of service. In 1997, he received his Ph.D. in Education. After retirement, he served as the Director of the Dillon Alternative School and worked closely with the Dillon County Board of Education. Because of his steadfast belief in education, there is an award given at Latta Middle School in honor of him. The award goes to an 8th grade student with high academic standing, leadership ability, high moral standards, and a sense of justice and fairness.

At an early age, Isaiah accepted Christ. He served at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Clover, SC. He also was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life, he joined Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Florence, SC on December 5, 1999 and later became a trustee. He served faithful until his health failed him.

Isaiah was an avid fisherman and loved to watch good "ole" Westerns. However, later in life, "Family Feud" with Steve Harvey became a new pastime. If he wasn't watching Westerns, you could find him outside in the garden.

Isaiah was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and brother, James Armstrong.
