Dad, God saw the road getting rough the hills were hard to climb. He gently closed your loving eyes, and whispered "Peace be Thine"
Deacon Eddie Sims the 6th of 14 children of the late George Sims and Edith Mae Dixon Sims was born in Darlington County, South Carolina on September 16, 1930 where he grew up. Eddie entered eternal rest on Sunday December 2, 2018 at McLeod Regional Center Dillon, where God came and took our King but his Angel to rest in his bosom.
Eddie was converted at an early age and joined Antioch Baptist Church, Brownsville, South Carolina. Later years the family moved to the Oak Grove Community and Eddie joined Mill Branch Baptist Church. Eddie worked for DuPont for 2 years. Then Eddie family later moved closer into Latta, South Carolina and Eddie had found his sweet thing and became a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late O.E. Jackson where he ushered, singed on the Senior Choir. Eddie attended the Public Schools of Darlington County. He was joined in Holy Wedlock to the Late Deaconess Lucille Davis Sims on September 24, 1950 and was blessed with 4 children two predeceased him in death Eddie Lavon Jr, Sylvia Loretta. Eddie had 11 siblings along with his parents and a son-in law to predeceased him.
Eddie was a very quiet, humble, meek, don't ask him no question because you may not want the answer or respond he kept it real he carried his mantle as a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Father in-law, Adopted Father, Uncle, Brother, God father and Brother in- law, friend, role model, as well. He was a loving husband and father, just a lovely person to know. Always willing to help in any way he could. Eddie and Lucille reared a lot of children and was given an affectionate name, Dad, Pop, Poppie, Bud, if you need someone to love/take care on your children- call Eddie or Lucille, they would love them as their own and they would end up- loving them back.
Eddie was known as having a heart for singing, fishing, baseball/The Los Angelo's Dodgers, football/The Green Bay Packers, the Westerns, loved his Peanut Butter and Jelly, Dr. Pepper, plus living a good Life with his Family and Friends. Eddie was also a baseball coach, for many-many years in Latta during his earlier years.
Eddie relocated from Latta, South Carolina., To New Britain Ct in 1960 with the love of his life- of 68 years while living in Ct., was employed by Emhart for 30 years which became Stanley Black & Decker Company. Eddie also was employed by G.E. Madison store for 23 years, he wanted to make sure his family was well taken care of for years. Eddie on another note/side would help with different and the same Elderly couple every weekend, goes shopping, communicating, friendship, etc., showing you and himself, what type of heart He always had. Eddie then joined St. James Baptist Church, and Second Baptist Church then Later became a working Deacon, Trustee, Male Chorus Lead Singer, President of the male chorus for 10 years. Eddie also was a member of the big Seven- This was a group he loved he would travel every weekend to sing multitude of song and he was a Lead singer as well, with that Male Chorus. Eddie was known as his CB name "Moonshine Kid", he loved his family, everyone in the family Loved him as well.
Traveled back and forth toward Connecticut, back toward South Carolina, reversed, Eddie & Lucille decided to make their home, where they lived for many years later, at a Welcomed Spot- in Connecticut. For many of the youth, children and people in general, respected, loved, etc., no matter the color, race, he adopted all as his own, in a place called: Pinnacle Heights of Hard Hitting- New Britain Connecticut. Eddie was a Baseball role model, Coach, taught many to play and he was known to love Fishing. Eddie running for "Father of the Year" at Second Baptist Church, Lucille [aka: Hump] as he fondly called her- baked enough homemade old-fashioned pound cakes and sold them to help him, with strong determination from all others that helped him well, to the successor of that award.
Eddie then relocated back to South Carolina in July 1997 where he was fondly called [Bud] by his loving Wife, and close friends, Eddie had a vision of building his family a home not a house but a home and there he reunited with their home Church St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. William J. Walker, First Lady Betty Walker and Willis whom he loved dearly and remained a Deacon and lead singer, for St John Male Chorus. His favorite song was "Oh Mary don't you weep", "On the right Road Now", and "Old Ship Of Zion", "I Had My Shares Of Ups and Downs", along with many others. Eddie a strong Man, and Will plus a Heart to work until his health started failing.
Eddie then left to cherish his fond memories of Connecticut, with a retired soul up North and moved down toward the South, his re-start of life called South Carolina. Following later, His Son Shawn E. Sims and his Caregiver/Daughter Ms. Barbara Sims Murray, to Latta Sc, Adopted Son John Andy, and his wife Sabrena Brown of New Britain Connecticut, Adopted Son -In-law Mr. Luther Roberts , Adopted Daughters Mrs. Barbara Jacobs, and Ms. Loretta Ellerbee, Grandchildren Anthony and Danyelle Murray of Marion South Carolina, Kayla and Marquez Bryant of Greenville SC., Destinee Sims, Alivia Sheen , Mike Candelorio of Newberry and Columbia SC, Kieoni Johnson of Alabama , Jermaine & Antole Ford of New Britain Ct , Ke'Onna C. Johnson, Te'Onna C. Johnson, Jacarree K. Graves Marion SC, two sisters Mary Hill of Florence, South Carolina, Virginia Eaddy of Timmonsville Sc, two brothers Jimmy Sims of Timmonsville Sc, Lockwood Dukes of North Carolina four Sister In-laws, Special Sister in-law: Edginora Gilchrist of Mullins Sc, Carrie Lee McCrae, Leslie Mae Davis, Edna Mae MCclam, One Brother In- laws, James [Mac]McKnight, God -daughter Pamela L. Willis, two special niece Ashley Jones, Frankie Lou Brown, Two Special Nephews Julius Willis Jr, Calvin Davis, Host of Nieces and Nephews, Cousins, Friends, and other Relatives, a very big family indeed that we couldn't fit all. Several many very special friends of New Britain Ct., for over 60 years, is a few to name: Mrs. Pearline Garner, Mr. Eddie [Buck} Brown, Deacon Mr. & Mrs. Eddie Clemonts, Deacon Mr.& Mrs. Levi Brown, Deacon Johnny Burrell, Deacon Mr. & Mrs. Lafon Walls special cousins Ms. Mary Ann Pugh, Holly Scarborough, Tamika Fladger, Min. Linda Horne & Deacon Tyrone Horne, Min. Melvin & Lyndell Galloway whom assisted in his care in South Carolina. Special Nurses Ms. Janell Graham of Bennettsville SC, Ms. Wilma of McLeod Home Health, Home Care & Staff, McLeod Agencies, etc., McLeod wound center Dr. Hillard, Tim Brown NP, The Veterans Home Health Staff- Ms. Pam Balls & their Staff. Plus, all Family and Good Friends of his. To All those not named, and there are many, that helped in anyway, or how, we the Sims and Murray Family, Love you All.
