Mother Bessie Scott Burton was born in Dillon County, South Carolina on October 3, 1921; daughter of the late George and Luevenia Scott. On Saturday, September 15, 2018, Bessie's soul transitioned to her prepared place.
Mother Bessie was educated in the public schools of Dillon County, South Carolina.
She married the late Elliott Burton and to this union eleven children were born.
Mother Bessie was a faithful member of New Mount Zion AME Church until her health declined. She was a Stewardess and member of the Women's Missionary Society. Bessie was kind and caring; enjoyed cooking and gardening. She served her community by cleaning, cooking and lending a helping hand to families in the surrounding area.
She was preceded in death by her parents: George and Luevenia Scott; six children: Theola, Rebecca, Frank, Elliott, Sam and Tony.
Mother Bessie leaves to cherish fond and loving memories ~ three daughters: Polly (Arbe) Felton of the home, Betty (Jake) Jacobs and Patricia Brown of Bronx, NY; two sons: Isaac Scott of Marion, SC and Lee Burton of Sellers, SC; step-daughter: Helen Burton of Edgefield, SC; daughter-n-law: Rovena Burton; son-n-law: William Burton; sister-n-law: Bertha Burton; twenty grandchildren: twenty-eight great grandchildren; eighteen great, great grandchildren, three great, great, great grandchildren; god-daughter: Kim Fore; her special friends: Alex and Maxine McKay, Edie and Isaiah Collington, Joyce Fore, Mary McRae, Mary Burch, Patricia Gibbons, Katrina who she called her daughters and Fontella Burch who she called her grand-daughter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
